Common Goldeneye

Bucephala clangula

This attractive duck is uncommon in the Pribilofs. On a typical year there will be several Common Goldeneyes around the island throughout the spring, and the first fall migrants will appear in late August. Occasionally this species is also found during the summer months. As with all other diving ducks, look for this species on the islands deeper lakes such as the Salt Lagoon, Antone Lake, Rocky Lake, Weather Bureau Lake, Polovina Lake or Webster Lake. Check through Common Goldeneye flocks for the much rarer Barrow’s Goldeneye, which has occurred in the Pribilofs three times.
