The form of Song Sparrow that has reached the Pribilof Islands isMelospiza melodia sanakawhich breeds in the Eastern Aleutian Island. This sparrow is significantly larger and darker than Song Sparrows from the rest of North America.SanakaSong Sparrows are largely resident in their Aleutian Island homes and are accidental in the Pribilofs. There are three confirmed records, two from Saint George (in 1913), and a long-staying individual on Saint Paul in the late nineties. This species could show up anywhere on the island, at any time of the year.
