A regular pelagic species along the shelf break, which lies approximately 60 miles west of St. Paul Island and 25 miles south of St. George Island, this species is very rarely observed from land with only a few sightings from land on St. Paul Island since the mid-1990s. This is the most common albatross species in pelagic waters near the Pribilof Islands and is likely much more regularly seen from St. George Island were coverage adequate to document such sightings, which generally occur during strong storms. Offshore records from the nearshore waters of the Pribilofs are from year- round, including mid-winter.
