This species occurs in the Pribilofs on a nearly annual basis and can occur at any time of the season. Common Greenshanks are most likely during the last week of May and first week of June during periods of strong West winds. This species has also been found during the summer, and in fall. Places to check for Greenshanks include Antone Lake, Antone Slough and the Salt Lagoon. Look for a large “yellowlegs-type” shorebird with dull greenish legs, a very pale streaked head and nape, and a large white wedge up the rump. Greenshanks are often quite vocal in flight, and their call notes are very similar to those of Greater Yellowlegs, although they do not descend in pitch.
