An uncommon semi-permanent resident on St. George Island, this species is found more sparingly in the rest of the Pribilof Islands. It can be found at any season and individuals are often present for extended periods of time when they are found. There has never been any evidence of breeding despite its resident status with small numbers (one to three) likely resident on St. George Island. Individuals are more rarely reported from St. Paul Island, where single birds may be present for many years (five or more), but no sustained population has ever persisted in the islands during recent times.
