Northern Pintail

Anas acuta

The elegant Northern Pintail is the largest duck that breeds on the lakes and ponds of St. Paul Island. Though and uncommon breeder, most freshwater bodies on the island will host at least one breeding pair. Long-necked, slim-bodied, and long-tailed (especially the male) the Northern Pintail is distinctive in shape. The finely demarcated chocolate head, white neck, and gray body of the drake is unique and adds a touch of class to the local marshes.
