Red-faced Cormorant

Phalacrocorax urile

Distinguished in all ages from Pelagic Cormorant by its pale bill and blockier head, the Red-faced Cormorant is a common breeder on St. Paul. Nesting on the cliffs of the island, especially the western High Bluffs, the Red-faced are quite conspicuous and readily observed. In peak breeding plumage, the bright scarlet face and blue based bill are a vivid contrast to the gray skies and black rocks of St. Paul Island.
