Sanderling

Calidris alba

Typically this species is only found during the fall when it is a regular, though sparse, migrant from late August to early October with a peak of occurrence from mid-September to early October. There are a handful of records during the spring, mostly from late May with a scattering of early southbound individuals during July and early August in the summer, and at least one winter record which indicates this cold-hardy species may on occasion winter locally when sea ice conditions allow.
