Surfbird

Calidris virgata

A very rare visitor to the Pribilofs with the first record not occurring until 1999, this species is an interior nester in Alaska, which likely accounts for the few records of an otherwise coastal species. The two spring records in late May likely indicate the best time to see this species in the Pribilofs, though the fall record in mid-August and early September coincide with the main fall migration season for shorebirds when this species could also appear.
