Black-backed Woodpecker

Picoides arcticus

An unexpected vagrant to the Pribilofs, the lone fall record (St. Paul Island) is a rare record for this species outside of its resident range. Known for being semi- nomadic and making short-distance movements in response to habitat changes, this species is unlikely to be found again in the Pribilofs, though late fall would likely be the best time.
